  • The Chocolate Hills are a cone-karst landscape spread across the inland municipalities of Carmen, Batuan and Sagbayan. Counts vary by survey — UNESCO cites 1,268 conical hills, while the Philippine World Heritage tentative listing describes about 1,776 mounds.
  • The hills range from roughly 30 to 400 metres in height and are named for the brown colour the grass turns in the dry season.
  • The whole island is a UNESCO Global Geopark — Bohol Island UNESCO Global Geopark — with the Chocolate Hills as its best-known site.
  • The Loboc river cruise and the Philippine tarsier sanctuary at Corella are the two stops most often paired with the hills on a single countryside loop.

Planning notes

  • This is a long driving day from the coast. Tell us your pickup time preference and we will be honest about what fits comfortably.
  • Entrance and viewpoint fees are paid on site and are not part of a transport quote — we will tell you which stops charge one.
  • The hills are brownest towards the end of the dry season; they are green after heavy rain. Both are worth seeing, but it is worth knowing which you will get.
