Tagbilaran port & airport transfers

Almost everyone arrives in Bohol one of two ways: by ferry into Tagbilaran City port, or by air into Bohol–Panglao International Airport. Both are the moment a trip either starts smoothly or starts with a negotiation you did not want. This is the page for arranging that first ride before you travel.

Good to know

  • Tagbilaran City is the capital of Bohol and its main sea gateway, with fast-craft and ferry services arriving at the city port.
  • Bohol–Panglao International Airport (TAG) is on Panglao Island, not in Tagbilaran. It opened in November 2018 and took over from the old Tagbilaran City airport.
  • Because the airport is on Panglao, an airport transfer to a Panglao resort and one to a mainland town are different journeys — we quote each on its own.
  • The pier itself is the Port of Tagbilaran, on Bohol’s south-west coast. The fast craft from Cebu City dock at Cebu’s Pier 1 at the other end of the crossing.
  • Tagbilaran is not Bohol’s only ferry port, which is the detail most arrival plans miss. Tubigon, on the north-west coast, is the nearest Bohol seaport to Cebu City and runs many daily round-trips including a roll-on/roll-off service. Jagna, on the south coast, is the port that faces Mindanao, with sailings via Cagayan de Oro and Butuan and the crossing to Camiguin.
  • Arrival pickups are arranged in advance by email, so there is no kerbside negotiating when you land or dock.

Planning notes

  • Send your flight number or your ferry operator and sailing time with your quote request — that is what we plan the pickup around.
  • Check which port your ferry ticket is actually for before you book the transfer. Tagbilaran sits on the south-west coast within easy reach of Panglao and the countryside loop; Tubigon is on the opposite, north-west side of the island and Jagna is round on the south coast, so arriving at either one means a drive across Bohol rather than a short hop, and we quote it as such.
  • Tell us how many bags and whether anything is bulky (dive gear, golf clubs, a wheelchair) so we send a vehicle that actually fits.
  • Travelling with small children? Say so and we will confirm a child seat before you book.
  • If a low car is hard work — a bad back, a stiff knee, a recent operation — say so too. Vehicle size otherwise follows headcount and luggage, so one or two of you travelling light would be quoted the sedan; ask and we quote a van you step up into instead.

Is the airport in Tagbilaran City?

No, and it catches people out. Bohol–Panglao International Airport (TAG) is on Panglao Island; it opened in November 2018 and took over from the old Tagbilaran City airport. Because of that, a transfer from the airport to a Panglao resort and one to a mainland town are different journeys, and we quote each on its own.

Will somebody actually meet me when I arrive?

Yes. Arrival pickups are arranged in advance by email — the driver, the vehicle and the price are all agreed before you travel — so there is no kerbside negotiating when you land at the terminal or dock at Tagbilaran City port.

What happens if my flight or ferry is delayed?

Send us your flight number, or your ferry operator and sailing time, with the quote request. That is what we plan the pickup around, and for flights we work to the real arrival rather than the scheduled one, so a late landing does not leave you without a ride.

Can I ask for a vehicle that is easier to get into?

Yes. Ask in the notes box rather than leaving it to chance, because the vehicle is otherwise sized on headcount and luggage alone — one or two travellers with light bags would be quoted the Toyota Vios, a sedan you drop down into. Both HiAce vans are the opposite shape: a step up and in, and upright seating. That is worth getting right on this page in particular, where the ride from the pier or the terminal to a Panglao or mainland resort follows a ferry crossing or a flight you have already sat through. We own no vehicles, so the model is confirmed with your quote rather than promised here; if you need something more specific than ride height — a wheelchair-accessible vehicle with a ramp, for instance — say what you need and we will tell you straight whether we can arrange it.

Does Bohol have more than one ferry port?

Yes — three that matter to a visitor, and people regularly book a transfer for the wrong one. Tagbilaran City port, on the south-west coast, is the main sea gateway and the pier almost every Cebu fast craft uses; it is the closest to Panglao, Alona and the countryside loop. Tubigon, on the north-west coast, is the nearest Bohol seaport to Cebu City and runs many daily round-trips including a roll-on/roll-off service, so it suits you if you are staying on that side. Jagna, on the south coast, is the Mindanao-facing port, with sailings via Cagayan de Oro and Butuan and the crossing to Camiguin — a boat whose published frequency the sources disagree on, so check the operator before you plan around it. They sit on three different sides of the island, so tell us the port on your ticket rather than just the word "ferry" and we will quote the right drive.

Can you take dive gear, a wheelchair or a lot of luggage?

Usually yes, but tell us up front. The quote form asks how many bags you have and whether anything is bulky — dive gear, golf clubs, a wheelchair — so we send a vehicle that actually fits it all. If you are travelling with small children, say so and we will confirm a child seat before you book.

Cebu City is the main departure port for ferries to Tagbilaran, with the fast craft running from Cebu's Pier 1. Check the current sailings with the operator you are booking — the line-up on this route has changed in recent years, so it is worth confirming rather than assuming. Camiguin is the one onward crossing that does not sail from Tagbilaran. It leaves from Jagna, round on the south coast, so the pier transfer is a drive across the island rather than a run into town — and the published sources disagree on how often the boat runs, which makes it the crossing to check before you book anything around it.
